About Us
Lonestar Nurse Mares is more than a business to us. It is something very near and dear to our hearts.
Our business was founded due to the unfortunate loss of two very special broodmares in our life. This left us with orphan foals that needed nurse mares, which were very difficult to find.
We knew Lonestar Nurse Mares was a crucial service for the equine community.

I grew up on horses, spending years showing 4H, speed events, Hunter Under Saddle and pleasure horses. For my high school senior project, I did a report on foaling out and caring for my broodmare.
I discovered a love for halter and ground work. I purchased a beautiful halter mare and put her in foal. The resulting foal was Aurora. Despite losing the dam giving birth, I had great goals for the foal. As we worked toward those goals she became a special part of my life. We went on to win the Open and Amateur APHA Eastern National Championship in Performance Halter.
We then traveled from Pennsylvania to Texas to the APHA World Championship Show. My niece showed Aurora to APHA Youth Performance Halter Reserve World Champion.
In 2023, I decided to breed Aurora, to a reining stallion in hopes of getting a ranch riding prospect. With growing excitement, I prepared to welcome our new addition.
Unfortunately, I lost Aurora due to a rectal prolapse during the birth of her first and only foal. Once more I was in search for a nurse mare.
To this day, my husband, Alex, and I enjoy foaling mares out for ourselves and our clients. It is our joy to provide the best options in nurse mares to Texas and surrounding states.

Horses were not part of my childhood. I can probably count on one hand how many times I rode a horse as a teenager. While I was more in favor of 2 wheels and a motor, I always had a passion for animals.
Years later, Maryann opened the door to me for horses and I never looked back. I enjoyed riding and showing, but everything changed after my first foaling experience.
From breeding the mares, watching for labor signs and getting to work with the foals, I knew this is what I wanted to do.
While our nurse mare business was born from tragic circumstances, there isn't a better team for it than me and my wife, Maryann.
After grafting 100+ foals, I still get the same warm feeling as I did the first time.
